American Shorthaired Cat
The male Shorthair will usually be larger than the male, but both sexes should be slightly longer then they are tall. The face should be wide and expressive with medium to large sized eyes. This breed was originally known as the Domestic Shorthair but was renamed in 1966, and is now recognized as the American Shorthair to show it’s distinction from the common non-pedigreed shorthair often found semi-wild on the streets.
The American Shorthair is recognized in more than eighty different colors and patterns ranging from the striking brown patched tabby to the glistening blue-eyed white, the beautiful shaded silvers, smokes and cameos to the flashy calico van, and many colors in between. Most cats stay relatively clean and rarely need a bath, but they do need to be brushed or combed to stimulate blood circulation and promote good health. A grooming glove or mitten can make this process as simply as daily petting.
