Dogs Housing - Kennels, Crates and More

Every dog and puppy needs a place of shelter he feels belongs to him alone. Whether that's a warm bed in a corner or an elaborate kennel system with spacious dog houses is up to you and your dog.

Indoor Housing Facility

Indoor housing can be provided to dog in a room that is currently not being used, a verandah or a terrace with suitable modifications or you could keep him in a crate or a cage that can be placed anywhere in the house.

If you choose to keep him in a crate, cage or a kennel, see that :

  • It must be large enough for the dogs to stand, turn around, stretch and lie down.
  • The crate should be easy to clean and carry and preferably be strong at the same time.
  • Should have a door with a locking facility, so that the dog may be kept inside safely.
  • The crate should admit light and provide proper ventilation.
  • Provide the dog with a mat which can be spread on the floor of the crate.
  • And proper toilet training should also be given to the dog.

Outdoor Housing Facility

If outdoor housing is to be provided to the dog, it should be done on hard ground and the area around it should be kept dry. It should be built on a raised platform with slopes on all sides to avoid accumulation of rain water.

The dog house should be made of a strong material to resist different weather extremities. It should be seen that the dog is protected from direct hot and cold breezes. The house should be big with a the bed for it.

It is better if puppies under six months of age, sick dogs, old dogs and pregnant bitches are given indoor housing facility.
