Japanese Bobtail Cat

The Japanese Bobtail was first imported from Japan by Elizabeth Freret in 1968. They can be either short or longhaired, and are a medium sized cat with a lean muscular body. Despite their origins, they shouldn’t have the delicate appearance of the Siamese or Oriental cats. The tail should be less then three inches in length, move freely, and not exhibit any kinks, curves or angles.

The coat is soft, silky and slightly longer around the rump and neck. Most cats stay relatively clean and rarely need a bath, but they do need to be brushed or combed to stimulate blood circulation and promote good health. A grooming glove or mitten can make this process as simply as daily petting.
